Breathing Surf-Punk Life into Some Old Standards

Reviewer: Thomas William
Album: Kick Ass Take Names
Artist:  The Dirt Surfers

"Bang a Gong" - Swinging, fun, hardcore, perfect! Wow, the multi-tracked guitars sound super Dirt! The opportunity and licensing must be very exciting, I can see a lot of opportunities opening up with these brother, take it to the limit, kick big ass and to hell with the names. "Paint it Black" - loveX3 the build up, the guitar sounds are right on, the heavy chorus is a rush of adrenalin, wow your leads are terrific, I never knew your finger could fly like that. I need to hear the whole tunes man!!! Bring on the iTunes "Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)" - my favorite, you completely made this track your own, breathed a lot of surf-punk into and made it one of the better covers I ever heard of a Beatles song, tough job done to perfection. The chorus just kills man, too awesome.

The comments keep coming...

...carries on the tradition started by Dick Dale and The Ventures ...good for any extreme activity. Walk, don't run, to the Dirt Surfers.  (NOVA Ezine)

The Dirt Surfers play straight-ahead, cleanly produced, well executed, instrumental surf music. The music features minor key melodies and atmospheric Farfisa organ. (Listen.com)

TWANG! Sometimes you need some surf guitar just to wake you up...this is lively, fun and it's hard to keep your foot from tapping. You gotta love surf music! (Bruce Satinover, ArtistLaunch.com)

The Guitars intertwine with a very interesting blend of polychords. I can't for the life of me figure out what the Dirt Kahuna is doing.  (Independent critic, weAponX)

Internet Drives Surf Rock Band to Sundance Film Festival; Digital Artist Attributes Their Discovery to Web Site

SAN DIEGO, Jan. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The Internet is providing new opportunities to both artists and the entertainment industry. Citing one example, The Dirt Surfers  were recently discovered on a web site by film producers and, as a result, the band will be featured on a soundtrack from a web-based television show which is scheduled to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah later this month.

The Dirt Surfers, who are currently riding high on the surf-rock charts at MP3.com  attracted the attention of producers from the Atomboy Filmworks web-based show called ``Drive'' with their tongue-in-cheek holiday melody ``I'm So Pissed At Santa.'' The cutting-edge, web-based television show ``Drive'' is produced in monthly installments and is then streamed to an online viewing audience.

``Without MP3.com, our music would never have been noticed by the producers of this film,'' said Doug Cornell, guitarist for The Dirt Surfers. ``We are very excited about this new opportunity and will be seeking other film projects for our melodic instrumental rock music.''

``More talent seekers are recognizing the benefits of going online to fill their needs,'' said Michael Robertson, chairman and chief executive officer of MP3.com. ``There is amazing talents to be discovered online and we wish The Dirt Surfers the best of luck with their song's debut at the Sundance Film Festival.''
