She Wants Revenge (2 Song EP) Review by Doug Cornell Though this EP only contains two tracks, it's obvious that She Wants Revenge wants to be Joy Division. The first track, "Sister," features guitars that sound as if they were recorded in the caverns of a bleak, cold planet and vocals that sound like a successful Peter Murphy and Ian Curtis lab experiment. The beat, which is 100% authentic 1982 drum machine, is demanding and insistent, while the chorus will force uncontrollable vocal accompaniment by the listener. "Out of Control" is a mid-tempo throbber. Stark vocals are backed by sparse, minimalistic electric guitars and a grinding synth. She Wants Revenge makes no effort to be literary - after all, this is song about dancing ("The beat takes you over and spins you around"), but it's still a compelling bit of post-Joy Division/Bauhaus mimicry. The full album should be interesting. |
