The Screwdrivers

The Screwdrivers

A snare drum pounds a military beat, the perfect introduction to "The Internationale," a brilliant concoction of guitars, soaring vocals, and more melody than is usually found on any ten recordings made these days.

It's often scary to enjoy an album so much after only a few listens, but the self-titled release from Connecticut quartet The Screwdrivers is a thoroughly enjoyable affair.  The song structure and vocal qualities are similar to one of the early 90's great bands, The Connells.  Acoustic guitars are layered with electric, creating a lush pop-rock structure with more than just a bit of melancholy hiding under the surface.

That's not to say that The Screwdrivers don't rock - you'll get your testosterone fix from the raging guitar work on "Me On Top" or the in-your-face bass line of "I Don't Want to Love You."  For want of a better term, I'll suggest that stunning acoustic tracks like "St. John's Infirmary" are in the "emo" category.

But don't let this stop you from investigating this wonderful new release - The Screwdrivers are worthy of your any true rock fan's attention.
