Walk the Bike, the newest
recording by New York artist Richard Bliwas, is an interesting
brew of styles. Bliwas, who is a multi-talented piano
virtuoso, has assembled a crack team of musicians for this
album. Containing 24 tracks, the expertly recorded Walk
the Bike offers styles that range from Billy Joel piano
ballads to Miles Davis inspired jazz instrumentals.
If it's possible for an album to
sound like a city, then Walk the Bike sounds like New
York. Not the noisy, taxi cab traffic jam New York, but
the quiet back-streets where jazz musicians assemble to create
magic.
Stand out tracks include the
gorgeous piano ballads "Projector" and "Grocery Store," the
Buddy Hollyish "Moroccan Roll," and "Coffee," with its snazzy
keyboard work.
Walk the Bike is adventurous,
as demonstrated by the abundance of little 50 second morsels of
jazzy melody. Bliwas has no shortage of ideas, so rather
than creating an album of only 12 great songs, he throws every
idea at us while keeping the songs short and sweet.
