Translation: You recording
companies are idiots for not signing this band.
Just kidding! Ha ha, and all
that. Really, Penti is the kind of band that could
sideswipe the English language music market with their
infinitely cool northern European sound. Singing entirely
in their native Swedish tongue, Penti creates unique little bits
of pop that creep into your brain and stay there forever.
The new three track EP, Tio
Minuter Musik, is a sampler of Penti's newest material and a
follow up to last year's brilliant first release,
Penti.
The first track, "Nej Det är Inte Sant" ("No That Can Not Be
True") bristles with energetic bursts of electric guitar,
trumpets, and exuberant vocals. Jangly guitars introduce
"Semester" ("Vacation"). This light tune frolics along
nicely, and builds a head of steam right through the soaring
chorus. "Hägersten" (a suburb of Stockholm), demonstrates
a more pensive mood. A slow beat is punctuated by melodic
trumpets, creating a very pretty little song.
Fans of any number of bands -
Guided By Voices, Yo La Tengo, The Shins, The White Stripes, The
Feelies, or even REM, would certainly enjoy listening to Penti.
One can only hope that they get a recording deal so their music
will reach the audience it deserves.
