Psssst...wanna hear the new Strokes
album? It's been released under an assumed name: The Bella
Fayes. The sound is fuller and more mature than the debut,
but all of the fun choruses and guitar mayhem is here.
Just kidding. The Bella Fayes
(who hail from the Pacific Northwest, NOT New York City) are
probably saying, "We came up with this sound before we ever
heard the Strokes!" This could be true. But if
you're going to sound like one of the hottest bands around,
you'd better be prepared to put up with the comparisons.
The party begins with "Feel Like I
Wanna Feel," a high-energy rocker that exists just for the sake
of being loud and fast. Things get nice and meaty with
"Wake It Up." A distorted bass line drives the beat, the
guitars are both snarly and melodic, and the chorus is
guaranteed to have you shaking your fist in the best arena-rock
fashion. "Tables Will Turn" is a pleasant modern pop tune,
while "Trying To Find a Way" features hard-charging electric
guitars and a chorus that 9 out of 10 bands would kill for.
The Bella Fayes have plenty of tricks, and they're not afraid to
attempt a ballad, as in the striking "Poolside." Highly
enjoyable power pop ("Channeling," "Come") abounds, and both the
guitars and attitude are cranked up to eleven.
The Bella Fayes blend the perfect
mix of 60's and 70's era pre-punk electric guitars with insanely
hooky choruses. If you enjoy Cheap Trick, The Stones, or
The Strokes, then do yourself a favor and add The Bella Fayes to
your collection.
